Celebrate and Honor Memorial Day...

while thinking about Memorial Day, I found this great site. It has the origin of Memorial Day on it. In a bit I will post a copy of the original order establishing Memorial Day as a Day of remembrance of our fallen war heroes.
For myself  I find this a day to remember those who have served and passed on, but I also think of and pray for those who have served and are still with us, and those who are serving now.

Our family is getting together for our annual BBQ tradition. Some kind of meat (it's steak this year) and a plethora of salads, corn on the cob, cold Lemonade, and ice cream. We will laugh and eat and have a general day of fun and relaxation. Some years we head out to a parade, or maybe out to see some local fireworks. In general we, as a family, see it as a day of merry making. That's great. I'm so glad we can spend some time together now that even the grandchildren are almost grown.

But I also want us to remember why we are able to spend the weekend Celebrating.. traveling, camping, swimming, eating BBQ, watching parades, watching fireworks, and eating ice cream.

We can only celebrate because for well over 200 years, men and women from all walks of life have felt the call of Freedom. They have seen that a free people, and a free country are worth fighting and dieing for. They were willing to heed the call to bear arms. What heroes they are.

Also for well over 200 years we have, as Mothers, Fathers, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, children and a Nation, mourned their loss and honored their memory.

This Memorial Day I hope you will find a few quiet moments to reflect on The Greatness of our Country and will agree with me; that our Greatness comes from our God and from the Greatness of our Military Men and Women, who are willing, at any cost, to make us and keep us free.

The original of the following document written in his own hand June 1868 by General Logan is in the Logan Family Papers in the Library of Congress. General Logan was then serving in Congress as a Representative from Illinois. We have preserved spelling and punctuation as in the original.

On the 5th of May 1868 as commander in cheif of the Grand Army of the republic, I issued to our comrades throughout the land the following order:

"Head quarters Grand Army of the Republic. Adjutant Generals office No 444, 14th Street Washington, D.C. May 5th 1868.

General Orders No 11.
I. The 30th day of May 1868 is designate for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades, who died in defense, of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every City, Village, and hamlet, church yard in the land. In this observance no form of ceremony is prescribed, but Posts and comrades will in their own way arrange such fitting services and testimonials of respect as circumstances may permit.

We are organized, comrades, as our regulations tell us for the purpose, among other things ' of preserving and strengthining those kind and fraternal feelings, which have bound together the soldiers, sailors and marines who united to suppress the late rebellion.' What can aid more to assure this result than by cherishing tenderly the memory of our heroic dead, who made their hearts a barricade between our country, and its foes, their soldier lives were the revilee of freedom, to a race in chains, and their deaths the tattoo of rebellious tyranny in arms. We should guard their graves with sacred vigilence, all that the consecrated wealth and toils of the nation can add to their adornment and security, is but a fitting tribute to the memory of her slain defenders. Let no wanton foot tread rudely on such halowed grounds. Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent vistors and fond mourners. Let no vandalism of averice, or neglect, no ravages of time, testify to the present, or to the coming generations, that we have forgotten, as a people the cost of a free and undivided Republic.

If other eyes grow dull, and other hands black, and other hearts cold, in the solemn trust, ours shall keep it well as long as the light, and warmth, of life remain to us. Let us, then, at the time appointed gather around their sacred remains, and garland the passionless mounds above them with the choicest flowers of Springtime: let us raise above them the dear old flag they saved from dishonor. Let us in this solemn presence renew our pledges to aid and assist those whom they have left among us, a sacred charge upon a nations gratitude the soldiers and sailors widow and orphan.

II- It is the purpose of the commander in cheif to inaugarate this observance with the hope that it will be kept up from year, to year, while a survivor of the war remains, to honor the memory of his departed comrades. He earnestly desires the public press to call attention to this order, and lend its friendly aid in bringing it to the notice of comrades in all parts of the country in time for simultaneous compliance therewith.

III- Department commanders will use every effort to make this order effective"

By order of John A. Logan" . Commander in Cheif"

My Walgreen's Shopping Trip May 16th..

I want to state for the record that I've been a little leery of trying to Coupon shop at Walgreens. I am finally  getting the Rite-Aid system and coupon policies down. It takes a little time, but if you check out some Coupon websites, you should have a few by now, you will see that it sounds more difficult then it is.
I want to give a big fist bump, to my Cashier. I have had the same one two times now and he has been very helpful, and has made sure I get the best deal. He is amazing. I look forward to my next trip.

I made my trip this morning after Physical therapy, so I made out my list late last night. I missed a few deals that I found posted around the net this afternoon, but I still think I did pretty good for a Walgreens Newbie.

I purchased the following items:
4- air wick warmer units (these are free this week usually $1.49)
4- air wick scented oil refills
3- 16 oz Gillette body wash
1- Gillette Fusion Proglide Razor
2- Bags Hershey's Bliss candy
1-  11.5 oz can of Maxwell house coffee
2- Quilted Northern 9 big rolls pkg. toilet paper
the regular prices for all the items was $78.40
with the sale price, in-store coupons, Manufactures' coupons, and register rewards I paid:  $26.16
.  a savings of 66%..not bad..

 after coupons and register rewards,
$2 each for the air wick refills
Free air wick warmer units
Gillette Body wash $1.33 each
Hershey's bliss candy $.75 each
Gillette Fusion Proglide razor $5.89 out of pocket with a $5 register reward today making it $.89
Maxwell house coffee.. $2.79 (used $2 RR from last week making it .79)
Quilted Northern Bath tissue. $3.99 each.. used 2 RR for $3 each making bath tissue .99 each,
and I received $3 register reward for one of them..

I also got a rain check for Captain Crunch cereal. it's on sale for $1.75 a box.  I am donating the Toilet paper and the coffee (I just bought 12 cans a couple of weeks ago) to our Church Food Pantry. I'll be taking the cereal there too. We don't eat much cereal, but when I can get it for $1 a box I can't pass that up.

Happy "Clean Up Your Room" Day.. A Favorite Of Mother's Everywhere.

Oh the Joy of it.. A Clean Room..
I can scarcely believe there is an actual holiday for this.

Mother's everywhere are celebrating this very special day. At the same time children are weeping and gnashing their teeth.

I have no problems remembering what a battle the clean room was for our youngest. She fought against it with every fiber of her being. She, like us, was a saver. I would even find her stashes of comics from the bazooka bubble gum wrappers heaped on her vanity. When I asked about them, she would cry, "But Karen, I love those".

So would begin the compromise of what could stay, placed neatly somewhere out of site, and what was trash. I would threaten to " Clean her room for her".  I did it once. I placed all the good stuff in garbage bags on the back porch where I knew they would be safe. Took out the bags full of trash.. and neatly arranged everything from clothes, to shoes, books, and barbies.

My work went unappreciated to say the least.. I think the sobbing only lasted an hour or so. I returned the garbage bag full of barbies and bears and such. It worked.. A clean room. I think it lasted about a week, maybe 10 days. That was it.

We finally came to an agreement. Since her bedroom was off the kitchen and hallway, and everyone saw it almost immediately upon entering the living room, she could keep it how she wanted. But the door had to stay shut. I didn't want to see it. That seemed to work out best. She was entering her teen years and there would be bigger battles to wage. Ones I had to win. So a clean room went by the wayside.

It's funny, we were discussing it the other day.

*She is 39 now, and you will be pleased to know her home and her room are cleaner and neater then mine.. uh ya.. I know. She is now offering to come and help me clean. We have had a few discussions about getting rid of our extra stuff. She learned her lesson well.

While we were reminiscing about the Clean room thing. She reminded me that I did indeed "Clean her Room" one last time. I took all her barbies and put them in a garbage bag as before, out on the back porch. I put the garbage out each week since husband worked 3rd shift. No problem, her barbies were safe and sound. I thought.. Husband put out the trash that week. I thanked him and went on about my business.. later that week, I decided She had earned the Barbies back. I went to get them. They were GONE.. Put out in the trash with the rest of the garbage bags. We both cried that day. Her over the loss. Me over causing her so much pain. We can laugh about it now, but it is still a painful reminder that I should have found a better way.

I'm sure we came to the "just keep the door shut" compromise after the great barbie incident. My memory is a little fuzzy, but I think that was it.

I hope your "Clean up your room" day. goes smoothly.. If you take a toy or toys away for a punishment, DO NOT PUT THEM IN GARBAGE BAGS. Use another way. Or better yet.. Just shut the door.

Reminds me, I need to go clean my room..   :-)

Happy Mother's Day....

Happy Mother's Day..

I hope all you mom's are having a great day. I just had to share a couple of things with you. First I thought I would let you read my first Mother's day post.click here.
Having an abundance of Mom's I don't want to leave anyone out.

The second thing I wanted to tell you about was my Mother's day gift this year.
here is your first hint.

yep, you got it.. I got 6 boxes of steaks. Well one box is chopped steaks.
A fancy name for hamburger, but it's really good and preformed into patties.
The boxes include rib eyes, sirloin strips, fillet minion's, and I think there are
a couple of bigger ones in there too..

I have to laugh. Not many women are lucky enough to have a husband thoughtful enough to buy them a big box of meat for Mother's day.
I know I am loved..

Happy Mothers day !!!
May your table be full of family and friends.
And a big steak..

Osama Bin Laden Is Dead....

I have all kinds of mixed feeling about this.I want no man dead.. I want them to open their hearts and lives to Christ and be changed men. That the Evil in them, would be replaced by the Pure Love of God.

I'm going to post some things I saw about this on my facebook pages. Interesting what the world thinks of this.

My favorite post was this one. It really does say what I am feeling.

* "I've never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries

with great pleasure."  -Mark Twain-

* In an interesting twist, the deaths of both Osama Bin Laden,
and Hitler were both announced on the same date. May 1st.

*A HUGE THANK YOU to our military, who have sacrificed, died, suffered, and worked hard, to fight people like Osama Bin Laden. YOU are the ones we thank. YOU are the ones who deserve ALL CREDIT. Thank a soldier for bringing due justice for those lost on 9/11 and all the victims around the world who suffered from his commands.

*The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done.

By: George W. Bush

*20For there shall be no reward for the evil man;

the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

Proverbs 24:20 (Amplified Bible)

*For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood,
but against the rulers, against the authorities,
against the cosmic powers over this present darkness,
against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12

The true "war on terrorism" has it's core in the spiritual realm.
Pray for God's TRUTH to prevail & false teaching to be revealed as EVIL...
especially to all those who are deceived.

When The Phone Conversation Starts Out "Are you sitting down"..

I may just get a tattoo, and it would be this one.

When The Phone Conversation Starts Out "Are you sitting down", you know the news will not be good.

I got the call this afternoon. I don't sit down, especially when you tell me too.. I need to stand up and focus.. I may lean on something, but I just can't sit. I need to pace. I need to move. One of my Besties, Betty, called and told me to sit down. Betty has made this type of call to me a few times. To tell me of friends or neighbors severe illness, accident, or passing. She also has used this phrase to tell me of damage to our Ky. Cabin or  our property. Today I propped myself up against the kitchen counter and said "OK, tell me.

There was a tornado last night. The tornado came over the top of their house. It wasn't on the ground until it was across and farther down the road, but it was close enough to suck up the roof off the garage/metal building. It threw the roof across the road, sent a wall into another garage wall, and put a wall through our mobile home trailer. My first question was if the family was OK, She said "yes".. but our trailer was toast. At first they thought the damage could be repaired, but when they went inside, the floors and ceilings were all buckled. Apparently that old trailer took the garage wall instead of their living room. YAHOO.. how could I be upset about that. That old trailer kept them safe and spared the house.

This is the Old Trailer. It sits between the garage/the cars/ and the house.

Betty bought us that old trailer so we could add it onto the back of our cabin. It was small. 12x70.. but had 2 bedrooms, a big bathroom, and nice living room kitchen area. We were excited.. finally a bathroom. (we have no indoor plumbing) and bedrooms. A good deal all around. Betty cleaned it out for us and was waiting for the ground to dry up enough to have it hauled up to our place.

I hate to admit it, but we should have moved that trailer last year. It had already been sitting up at Betty's for almost a year then. She got it when GM went bankrupt in case we lost our pension and needed to move down to Ky. Because of my knee surgeries we didn't get down to see about moving it. We needed to get the place for it ready and we hadn't done that either. Anyone else would have moved it down to our place anyway, but they waited for us. That and it really had been to wet to move it to the place behind the cabin where we were going to put it.

The coolest thing about all of this is that God used that old trailer to spare Betty's house. Maybe that was His plan all along. Maybe that's why none of us got in a big hurry to move it, or fix the place for it. The mysterious ways of God. I know some who read this may poo poo it. But I believe.

I am kind of sad that we won't have that big huge bathroom, but I'm OK with it. Our trips to Ky. are less then I would like. Our little cabin is cozy and good for us. Even with getting older we still can get around it easy. (We have 2 rooms) It's nice and cozy and amazingly enough people still come to visit, and stay with us. I haven't heard about our cabin yet. I called a neighbor who said that there was a lot of wind up there, but no tornadoes that she had heard of. Betty will get down to our place in a day or two to check it out for us. They take good care of it . They take good care of us. I'm not in a panic. I tend to panic. I really do need a tattoo to remind me not to panic. God has it covered. He has given me everything I have. He always takes care of me. He will see we have a big bathroom if we need one. I'm glad He saw fit to use our little old trailer to spare our dear friend's home. I'm praying that their insurance will cover their damage. I know they have lost things. Things can be replaced. I just so glad to have them. Who cares about a garage or an old trailer.. I have my Bestie and her family that's all that really matters.

Favorite Song Of The Day: "Blessings" by Laura Story

We pray for blessings
We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love is way too much to give us lesser things

(Chorus)
'Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if the thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

We pray for wisdom
Your voice to hear
We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt your goodness, we doubt your love
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough
And all the while, You hear each desperate plea
And long that we'd have faith to believe

Chorus

When friends betray us
When darkness seems to win
We know the pain reminds this heart
That this is not, this is not our home

Chorus

What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can't satisfy
What if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are your mercies in disguise
